(Baonghean.vn) –As reported in the news this morning (September 10), the surgery for patient Tran Thi An - who had a giant tumor weighing more than 10 kg - was performed at 8:30 am, led by specialist 2 Dr. Dau Huy Hoan - Head of the Department of Surgery, Deputy Director of the Hospital. After more than 7 hours, the tumor was removed and at exactly 4:20 pm this afternoon, Ms. An was transferred to the post-operative room with safe health indicators.
After more than 7 hours of standing directly holding the scalpel, the main surgeon Dau Huy Hoan said: This is a record surgery of Nghe An Oncology Hospital in terms of duration. Initially, the doctors expected the surgery to last only 4-5 hours, but unexpectedly the tumor was so large, widespread, and deep inside the patient's body that the doctors had to work very hard to separate, stop the bleeding, connect the blood vessels, and calculate the skin flap to cover the patient.
Patient An was operated on with modern scalpels.
After the surgery, Dr. Hoan as well as Dr. Chu Van Chien, Le Huy Kien, Nguyen Tai Bui Dat (who directly participated in the surgery) were exhausted and… hungry because they had not had time to eat anything. Lunch was just a hastily drunk glass of milk. “Fortunately, the new hospital is equipped with good surgical knives such as Ligarier vascular welding knives and ultrasonic cutting-hemostasis knives, otherwise if using the previous surgery method, it would have taken more than 10 hours,” Dr. Hoan shared.
It is known that there were 10 people participating in this surgery, including doctors, technicians, and nurses.
Currently, the patient's condition, according to the doctors, is good. The concern now is to monitor the grafted skin flap to ensure it does not become necrotic and to carry out anti-infection measures and improve the patient's health.

The giant tumor after being removed weighed 13 kg.
Ms. An’s relatives, neighbors and her son stood outside the operating room for an entire day. They all expressed their gratitude to the doctors who performed the surgery and to the kind individuals and organizations who helped and shared with Ms. An.
An's recovery phase is an important one. Nghe An Oncology Hospital and patient An hope to receive practical help from the community.
