This is one of the goals of the National Strategy for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control to 2020 and Vision to 2030, which has just been approved by the Prime Minister.

Strive to reduce the number of people dying and getting sick from tuberculosis

The strategy sets a target of reducing the number of people with tuberculosis in the community to below 187 per 100,000 people by the end of 2015; reducing the number of people dying from tuberculosis to below 18 per 100,000 people.

The goal by the end of 2020 is to reduce the number of people with tuberculosis in the community to below 131 people per 100,000 people; reduce the number of people dying from tuberculosis to below 10 people per 100,000 people; and control the number of people with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis to below 5% of the total number of newly detected tuberculosis cases.

Enhance early detection and effective treatment

To achieve the above objectives, the Strategy sets out 8 solutions to be implemented. These include reviewing, amending and supplementing policies in line with practical tuberculosis prevention work; promoting the dissemination and propaganda of laws and policies on tuberculosis prevention and control.

Tuberculosis is a dangerous infectious disease for the health and life of the infected person with the risk of spreading to the community; the disease can be cured if detected early, treated with the right method and for enough time. Therefore, the work of preventing and controlling tuberculosis is an important long-term task of the entire political system in which the health sector is the core.

In addition, it is necessary to strengthen early detection of tuberculosis and effective treatment of tuberculosis; research and promulgate policies to create favorable conditions for people, especially people in remote areas and migrants, to easily access and use services for examination, detection, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of tuberculosis...

Another solution that will be implemented is to expand international cooperation in the fields of tuberculosis prevention and control, actively and proactively mobilize support from international organizations for breakthrough areas in tuberculosis prevention and control; closely cooperate with countries in the region and the world to jointly solve the problem of detecting, treating and spreading tuberculosis across borders as well as migratory subjects.

At the same time, research and develop a plan to improve the capacity for tuberculosis epidemiological surveillance and evaluate the effectiveness of tuberculosis prevention and control at all levels through training programs, study tours, and experience sharing at home and abroad; strengthen inspection and supervision of the implementation of policies and laws on tuberculosis prevention and control, etc.
