The appeal trial of the "big case" Huyen Nhu lasted more than 2 weeks

As planned, from tomorrow (December 15), the Supreme People's Court of Appeal in Ho Chi Minh City will hold an appeal trial of the case of Huynh Thi Huyen Nhu (former Head of Dien Bien Phu Transaction Office, Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank (Vietinbank - Ho Chi Minh City Branch) and accomplices for the crime of Fraudulent appropriation of property.

According to the indictment, Huynh Thi Huyen Nhu borrowed over 200 billion VND to invest in real estate business. By 2010, due to business losses and inability to repay debts, Huyen Nhu had the idea of ​​appropriating money from customers. From March 2010 to September 2011, Huyen Nhu hired 8 fake seals of units and companies, then used these fake seals to forge documents, contract certificates and pay high interest rates to mobilize money from organizations and individuals. In total, Nhu appropriated nearly 4,000 billion VND from 9 companies, 4 banks and 3 individuals.

At the first instance trial on January 27, 2014, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City sentenced Huynh Thi Huyen Nhu to life in prison for fraud and appropriation of property and forgery of seals and documents of agencies and organizations, and ordered Nhu to compensate the entire amount of more than 4,000 billion VND. In addition, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City also sentenced 22 other defendants to sentences ranging from 1 year of suspended imprisonment to 22 years of imprisonment.

After that, Huynh Thi Huyen Nhu filed an appeal requesting the appellate court to consider lifting the seizure and returning to her mother the villa H2 The Nam Hai in Bac Tra My area (Dien Ban district, Quang Nam province) because it was Nhu's mother's private property. 20 defendants in the case filed an appeal to reduce their sentences and consider their civil liability. In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy also filed a protest requesting the appellate court to increase the sentence for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property" against two defendants, Vo Anh Tuan (former Deputy Director of Vietinbank Nha Be branch, sentenced to 20 years in prison at first instance) and Dao Thi Tuyet Dung (former Director of Dung Van Company Limited, sentenced to 12 years in prison at first instance) for the reason: The first instance judgment imposed a light sentence, not commensurate with the nature and severity of the crime.

Regarding this case, there are many appeals from civil plaintiffs, people with related rights and obligations requesting the appellate court to force Vietinbank to take joint responsibility with the defendants to compensate the amount of over 3,900 billion VND that they transferred to the bank, which was then appropriated by Huyen Nhu.
