Movie about Trinh Cong Son has a budget of 20 billion VND
The work about the musician recalls the love story between him and a Japanese girl, scheduled to be released on April 1, 2021, exactly 20 years after his death.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Galaxy announced that Phan Gia Nhat Linh will direct the film, and Nguyen Quang Dung will produce the film. The project is currently completing the script, then casting (choosing actors) and filming will begin next year. The script revolves around the life and music of Trinh Cong Son, spanning from his 20s to his 40s, with the highlight being the love story between the late musician and Michiko Yoshii - a Japanese girl who admired his talent. The unit hopes that the work can follow the same model of public-private cooperation asI see yellow flowers on green grass(2015).
In the late 1980s, as a university student in Paris (France), Michiko Yoshii had a great love for Vietnamese culture - including Trinh's music. She pursued a master's degree in anti-war music by Trinh Cong Son. Michiko went to Vietnam to meet, then fell in love with and planned to marry him. However, the wedding did not happen due to differences in customs.

Regarding the script idea, Nhat Linh explained: "I want to express the romanticism of the musician. Trinh Cong Son had many muses at different stages in his life, inspiring him. Ms. Michiko has the special feature of being a music researcher, coming to Vietnam because she loves Trinh's music. Her story and the late musician's story are not known to many people."
He said he faced a lot of pressure when making a film about the great monument of Vietnamese music. The director plans to meet Ms. Michiko to learn more documents and information. Trinh Cong Son's family advised the crew on the script but respected the individual creativity of the director and the film crew.
Finding an actor to play Trinh Cong Son was a big challenge for the film crew..The director said that the content of the work is expected to span many years, so the role of Trinh Cong Son can be played by one or more people depending on the casting situation. Phan Gia Nhat Linh plans to go to Hue (Trinh Cong Son's hometown) to find the main actor: "Most of the famous male actors at present are not suitable for this role. I hope to find a new face from Hue, not too similar in appearance but need to have the same charisma, style, and voice as the late musician." Some other actors will have to meet specific requirements, for example, the person playing Khanh Ly must be able to sing.

Ms. Trinh Vinh Trinh (Trinh Cong Son's younger sister) and her husband - Nguyen Trung Truc said that before the Trinh Cong Son film project, the family received many invitations to cooperate in making a film about the late musician. However, the family chose to work with directors Nhat Linh and Nguyen Quang Dung because they trusted their abilities and understanding of the late musician. Ms. Trinh said that director Quang Dung has long been like a close nephew in the family. He used to write children's songs.Mom is awaywith the musician. Quang Dung's father - the late writer Nguyen Quang Sang - was a close friend of Trinh Cong Son.
