The Movie "Minions": The Entertainers Become Cultural Icons
There are few places in the world where money is made as well as in Hollywood. As soon as a hit movie is released, producers will consider sequels, prequels, and even spin-offs.
One of the quickest and easiest ways for producers to make money these days is to automatically include their blockbusters in the above release formula.
A successful trend of making "copycat" movies
After releasing the previous or next part, if they "smell" a character or a side story in the main story that has the potential to bring profit, they will immediately exploit it.
Spin-offs have been around for a long time, but have only recently become a trend (albeit small). In the live-action film segment, The Scorpion King can be considered a spin-off of The Mummy Returns, Elektra is a small part of Daredevil, or Get Him to the Greek is a spin-off of the famous comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, focusing on the character Aldous Snow (Jonah Hill)...

From being supporting roles, the minions have become the center of attention in the movie Minions. |
In the 3D animation genre, the meaning of spin-offs is most evident. In 2004, when DreamWorks released Shrek 2 and achieved great financial success, they also introduced the super cute Puss in Boots character.
This cat has been loved as much as the main character Shrek. Puss in Boots continued to appear in the sequels until 2010 and played an important role in the story.
Seeing the appeal of Puss in Boots, DreamWorks has made a movie based on the character, called Puss in Boots. Similar to Puss in Boots is the case of Planes (derived from Cars), this year is Penguins of Madagascar (spin-off from the Madagascar series) and especially next year with Minions (from Despicable Me).
Huge attraction from cute minions
Perhaps Despicable Me is the rarest series in the history of 3D animation. It is rare not because the film is good or very popular (earning over 1.4 billion USD worldwide), but because the supporting characters are more famous than the main characters. That is why when talking about Despicable Me, people never mention the grumpy guy Gru but only talk about the cute, silly but loyal minions.
Not only stopping at the level of supporting characters, now the image of Minions has flooded the world and is the symbol of the animation studio Illumination Entertainment. Rarely has any character had the coverage and influence on the audience like Minions. In addition to young audiences, young and adult audiences also love them passionately. Seizing this opportunity, Universal and Illumination decided to release a work based on Minions, scheduled to be released in the summer of next year.
Originally a single-celled yellow organism that existed since ancient times, Minions gradually evolved through the ages with the sole purpose of serving the most evil and hateful people. However, their masters, from Tyrannosaurus Rex, Dracula to Napoleon... all disappeared over time. This caused the Minions to fall into a state of sadness and depression.
That's when minion Kevin and two other mischievous minions, Stuart and Bob, set out to explore the world, hoping to find a "great evil" master worthy of them. The minions' journey begins, from the cold Antarctica, through bustling New York to trendy London.
Minions is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, with a screenplay by Brian Lynch. Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock will voice Scarlett Overkill in the film.
The movie will of course still retain the fun and cute style of the minions in Despicable Me. Still the funny chattering voices, still crazy banana-loving and clumsy, still harming the masters they serve. Minions is expected to be released on July 10, 2015 in the North American market.
