Vietnamese films have conquered audiences in Sri Lanka

The second Vietnam Film Festival in Sri Lanka was successfully held for three days from October 19-21 in the capital Colombo.
Many senior officials of the Sri Lankan government such as Minister of Human Resources, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka Dew Gunasekara, Secretary of the Ministry of Mass Communications and Information Charitha Herath, Chairman of the National Film Corporation A. Serasinghe attended the festival.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ton Sinh Thanh, this is the second time the Vietnam Film Festival has been held in this South Asian country. The five Vietnamese feature films screened this time on post-war themes include "Doi Cat," "Song trong vo shou," "Rung dam" and "Vua duong" (The King of the Garbage Dump) which are very close to the people of Sri Lanka.
Many viewers could not hold back their tears while watching the touching and humane story in the film "Doi Cat" by director Nguyen Thanh Van.
Minister Dew Gunasekara appreciated the Embassy's efforts in organizing many Vietnamese cultural activities in Sri Lanka; hoping that the Film Festival will help the Sri Lankan public have a better understanding of the country and people of Vietnam.
The Minister affirmed that Sri Lanka and Vietnam are two countries with long-standing, rich cultures and rich national identities, and will jointly exploit their potential to strongly promote cultural cooperation for understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
National Film Studio Chairman A. Serasinghe said that along with the Film Festival, the two countries have had a strong cooperation step with the Sri Lankan film studio The Light of Asia Foundation and the actor who played the main role in the film “The Life of Buddha” Gagan Malik just returning from Vietnam after the film introduction in early October in Ho Chi Minh City.
Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh emphasized that the second Vietnam Film Festival is among a series of cultural exchange activities between the two countries this year.
Previously, the Vietnamese art troupe had a tour in several major cities along with the Vietnamese Cuisine Week to celebrate National Day on September 2; next November, there will be an inauguration ceremony for the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Colombo and an art program to celebrate this event performed by an art troupe from the country.
