FIFA Vice President Resigns Over Corruption Scandal
Official information from the World Football Federation FIFA confirmed that Vice President Jack Warner, who was recently suspended from work due to corruption allegations, has announced his resignation.
This is considered an inevitable and somewhat safe choice for the former FIFA Vice President and President of the North, Central American and Caribbean Football Confederation (CONCACAF). Because it not only helps him avoid the comprehensive investigation being conducted against him by the Ethics Committee but also prevents the most powerful football organization on the planet from suffering further scandal.
Mr. Jack Warner leaves FIFA after 28 years of association.
Previously, since May 30, Mr. Warner and President of the Asian Football Confederation Mohamed bin Hammam were suspended from their positions after being accused of using money to "buy" votes in the race for the FIFA presidency.
According to witnesses, including Surinamese Football Federation President Louis Giskus, Warner helped bin Hammam deliver several brown bags containing $40,000 in cash to CONCACAF members who were on the FIFA Executive Committee. It is likely that after Warner, Mohamed bin Hammam will be the next to do the same.
FIFA's official announcement confirmed: "His resignation has been accepted by FIFA. We acknowledge and appreciate his contribution to world football, especially to football in the CONCACAF region.
Mr Warner's decision to leave FIFA after nearly 30 years of service was his own, to focus on his other important work, which is to represent the people and Government of Trinidad and Tobago as a Cabinet Minister and President of the United National Congress, the major political party in his country's governing coalition.
“And due to Mr Warner's voluntary decision to resign, all investigations by the Ethics Committee against him will be closed and the presumption of innocence will remain,” FIFA's statement concluded.
