Vice President receives delegation of students winning international Olympic prizes

On the afternoon of November 2, at the Presidential Palace, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan cordially received a delegation of 41 students who won international Olympic prizes and achieved the best scores in the 2014 University Entrance Exam.

These are the students attending the Ceremony to honor students who won international Olympic prizes and students with the best scores in the 2014 University Entrance Exam, jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam.

Praising the students who won international Olympic prizes and achieved the best scores in the 2014 university entrance exam, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan affirmed that they are the ones who bring glory to the Fatherland and bring the mark of Vietnam to international friends.

That shows the intelligence and capacity of Vietnamese people to overcome any opponent, no matter how much stronger they are. You are not only the pride of yourself, your family and your clan, but also worthy of being shining examples and intellectual treasures of the country in the present and the future.

The Vice President acknowledged the contributions of teachers in the selection, training and coaching work, the efforts of students and their parents; and at the same time asked students to continue to practice, study, demonstrate their talents and intelligence to contribute to the country; and promote the nation's tradition of studiousness that has existed for thousands of years.

The Vice President noted that the Ministry of Education and Training needs to continue to strongly innovate teaching and learning methods; build and propose policies to encourage the spirit of striving, studying and training of generations of students, contributing to building high-quality human resources to serve the country.

According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Nghia, innovations in organizing national competitions for excellent students, selecting and training national teams to compete in regional and international Olympics in recent times have improved the quality of the competing teams, contributing significantly to the outstanding achievements in 2014.

In 2014, 42/42 students participating in regional and international Olympics won prizes including 12 Gold Medals, 21 Silver Medals, 8 Bronze Medals and 1 Certificate of Merit.

According to the overall assessment, this is the highest achievement of the Vietnamese Olympic delegation ever.

In the 2014 regular university entrance exam, 10 students from different regions achieved the best scores in all exam groups with the criteria of achieving a total score of 27 points or higher and were awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Minister of Education and Training for their high achievements in the 2014 university entrance exam.
