Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee suggests economic development from marine farming
(Baonghean.vn) - Reducing the exploitation of natural seafood and increasing aquaculture at sea (marine farming) is an inevitable and sustainable direction. Nghe An has a coastline of 82km and a large sea area, so the issue of economic development from marine farming needs attention.

On the morning of January 5, Mr. Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, together with leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Fisheries and the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, inspected a number of aquaculture economic development models in the localities: Nghi Loc, Quynh Luu and Hoang Mai town.
In Nghi Quang commune, Nghi Loc district, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De and the working delegation visited and inspected the HDPE plastic fish cage production model of Nghe An Aquaculture Technology and Services Company Limited.
Through the implementation of the national pilot production project: "Research to perfect the technology of producing fish cages using HDPE plastic materials to replace traditional fish cage products and develop Vietnam's cage fish farming industry", Nghe An Aquaculture Technology and Services Company Limited has completed the production line of HDPE plastic fish cage accessories with a capacity of 500 cages/year.

Currently, the project's products have been supplied to many provinces and cities across the country such as: Kien Giang, Vung Tau, Bac Lieu, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Khanh Hoa, Kon Tum, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh... as well as domestic enterprises and corporations.
Applying the project results to production helps optimize cage structures to suit different types of water bodies, minimizing import and transportation costs. In addition, cages have a durability of up to 40 - 50 years, contributing to limiting deforestation for wood, bamboo and rattan to make traditional cages. In particular, the project creates fish cages that are resistant to natural disasters, helping fishermen and aquaculture businesses confidently expand to offshore waters.
Here, the inspection team also inspected the potential of marine farming areas in Nghi Yen, Nghi Thiet and Nghi Quang.

In Quynh Luu district, the delegation inspected the model of raising yellowfin pompano on shrimp ponds in Hong Phong hamlet (An Hoa commune). Accordingly, in recent years, when the shrimp farming area was heavily affected by salinity, shrimp diseases were complicated, and shrimp output was unstable, many households abandoned their ponds.
Since June 2023, some shrimp farmers in An Hoa have imported yellowfin white pomfret from Nha Trang for trial farming in shrimp ponds. Initial assessments show that the fish grow well, are suitable for the farming environment here and have a fairly stable output.

In Hoang Mai town, the delegation visited the grouper farming model in the shrimp pond of Mr. Nguyen Hong Cuong's household (Quynh Lap commune). According to Mr. Cuong, according to the initial assessment, grouper is easy to raise, disease-free and the food is taken advantage of the source of small fish caught by fishermen; the investment cost is low and it is a seafood with high economic value; the output is quite stable.
Next, the delegation also visited the high-tech shrimp farming model of Mr. Le Duy Khanh in Quynh Di ward.

After visiting and inspecting the models, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the dynamism, creativity and sensitivity of the people in the aquaculture areas. At the same time, he reminded localities about the issue of linking production according to the product value chain; focusing on connecting output for new types of seafood put into trial farming; seriously evaluating the effectiveness of new farming types, from there, calculating the expansion and replacement of ineffective shrimp farming areas.
On the other hand, promote, mobilize and replicate high-tech shrimp farming models. Because, to successfully raise shrimp in this period, high technology must be applied, not traditional farming methods.

At the same time, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also suggested to localities about exploiting the potential and strengths of aquaculture at sea.
