Regarding the accident that injured 3 people in the central area of ​​District 1 (HCMC), District 1 Police said that the driver of the car that caused the accident came to the police station and gave his name as Le Ton Thanh (57 years old, residing in District 10).

Police verification shows that Mr. Le Ton Thanh is currently Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (VH-TT-DL) of Ho Chi Minh City.

As reported, at around 6 p.m. on March 30, Mr. Thanh drove a 7-seat car with license plate 51A-359.29 on Ly Tu Trong Street (District 1). When he reached the intersection of Ly Tu Trong - Thu Khoa Huan, District 1, he crashed straight into a crowd waiting for a red light. At the scene, the front bumper of the Toyota Fortuner broke off and flew off the body of the car, next to it were two damaged scooters and 3 injured people.



The car driven by Mr. Thanh hit and injured 3 people on two motorbikes.


After causing the accident, Mr. Thanh quickly left the scene and about an hour later turned himself in to the police. According to the police, at the time Mr. Thanh came to work with the police, he was still smelling of alcohol.

Responding to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Rum, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City, said that Mr. Le Ton Thanh is the Deputy Director of the Department in charge of the cultural sector. Immediately after the incident, through initial discussions with the Department's leaders, Mr. Thanh said that that afternoon (March 30), he took his wife and children to his maternal home to visit a sick relative. On the way back, two tires suddenly exploded, causing Mr. Thanh to lose control and cause the above accident. When the incident happened, Mr. Thanh's wife and children were also in the car.

In his initial assessment of the accident, Mr. Rum said that this was an unfortunate incident that occurred on the road, causing only property damage, so the person who caused the accident will likely make compensation. Mr. Rum added that his deputy is a person who lives a standard life and rarely drinks alcohol.

On April 1, Mr. Thanh still went to work as usual. Currently, Mr. Thanh is making a report on the incident, which may be sent to the Department's leaders this afternoon or tomorrow.
