On the afternoon of May 13, Comrade Vuong Dinh Hue - Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister had a phone call with US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

The two sides agreed to continue to further strengthen financial-monetary, economic-trade and investment cooperation, thereby contributing to maintaining and promoting bilateral relations between the two countries, towards the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations in 2020.

During the phone call, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership and expressed his delight at the positive development of bilateral relations, especially economic and trade cooperation, with two-way export turnover in 2018 reaching over 60 billion USD, of which US exports reached over 12 billion USD, an increase of over 36% compared to 2017, making Vietnam one of the fastest growing export markets of the US.

The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized that the Vietnamese Government is continuing to improve the investment environment, creating favorable conditions for US businesses to invest and do business in Vietnam, and will direct relevant ministries and sectors to handle issues of concern to the US such as automobile imports, cyber security, electronic payments, finance and currency, etc.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin appreciated the progress in economic, trade and investment relations between the two sides in recent times as well as the Vietnamese government's attention and facilitation in promoting the handling of issues of concern to the US.

Mr. Steven Mnuchin also welcomed the recent signing of a number of economic cooperation agreements between the two sides with a total value of over 21 billion USD during President Donald Trump's visit to Vietnam on the sidelines of the US-North Korea summit and hoped that the two sides would continue to coordinate to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation; at the same time, he appreciated Vietnam's provision of information to the US side on Vietnam's policies in the financial and monetary fields, and suggested that Vietnam continue to discuss with the US side on this issue.

At the end of the phone call, the two sides agreed to continue to further strengthen financial-monetary, economic-trade and investment cooperation, thereby making an important contribution to maintaining and promoting bilateral relations between the two countries, towards the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations in 2020./.
