PV: In your opinion, what should National Assembly deputies in general and National Assembly deputies in the armed forces in particular do to be worthy of being representatives of the people?

For delegates working in the armed forces, in addition to doing a good job in their professional work at their units, they need to regularly listen to the opinions of officers and soldiers, and of the people. The delegates must become a bridge between the army and the people, on that basis building an increasingly close and united relationship between the army and the people. This is considered the top principle that delegates must strive for.

PV: After being elected as a National Assembly delegate for the 13th term, what is your responsibility in building a national defense?

Mr. Tran Huu Tuat: In my position in the Military Region, I first of all determined to thoroughly grasp and implement the Party's viewpoint on the two strategic tasks of building and defending the socialist Fatherland, renewing thinking on military and defense tasks in the spirit of the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress and Resolution of the 8th Central Committee (9th Term) on the strategy of defending the Fatherland in the new situation. Closely combine economic development with the construction and consolidation of national defense and security, national defense and security with economic development in the overall strategy of the country and the Military Region.

Closely coordinate with provincial Party committees and authorities to focus on leading and directing the building of a solid national defense foundation, linking the national defense posture with the people's security posture in the area, building a solid defense area suitable to the requirements of the tasks in the new period in the spirit of Resolution 28 of the Politburo.

The focus is on building a strong national defense potential; promoting national defense education for all people, fostering national defense and security knowledge for all subjects, in order to raise awareness and responsibility of all people, and to be vigilant against all plots of "peaceful evolution" and riots and overthrows by hostile forces; strengthening the construction of commune, ward and security-defense cluster bases in accordance with current requirements; supplementing and completing combat plans, surveying and planning, renovating caves, building defense works, and evacuation and shelter areas when situations arise.

Closely contact voters, contact and learn about their thoughts and aspirations, collect and honestly reflect voters' opinions to the National Assembly and State agencies. Coordinate with the People's Councils and People's Committees of localities to unify the resolution of current pressing issues of concern to voters.
