According to the World Health Organization (WHO), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma (BA) are the two most common respiratory diseases with high morbidity and mortality rates among current respiratory diseases.
Nghe An is one of 8 localities that have benefited from the project “Prevention of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma” since 2011. Thanks to the project, over the past 5 years, Nghe An has organized many screening sessions at the grassroots level with more than 20,000 people and has detected and managed more than 1,500 patients with bronchial asthma and obstructive pulmonary disease.
In parallel with the management and preventive treatment of patients, the Project organized more than 30 professional training courses for grassroots health workers, and strengthened communication on the prevention of bronchial asthma and obstructive pulmonary disease. It is expected that in 2016, a department for the management of COPD and COPD will be established at Nam Dan District Hospital.
At the conference, the Project Management Board in Nghe An was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Ministry of Health and was evaluated by the Central Project Management Board as an effective operating model for other provinces to learn from.
