Preventing and combating crimes of robbing taxi drivers
(Baonghean) -Recently, the situation of bad guys threatening, controlling and robbing taxi drivers has occurred continuously in the province. To effectively prevent and combat this type of crime, taxi companies, in addition to installing additional surveillance devices, need to equip their employees with protective measures.
Although the incident happened a long time ago, every time Mr. Tran Van H (living in Hung Nguyen) who drives for a taxi company is mentioned, he still feels shocked and scared. Mr. H said that at about 1:00 a.m. on November 10, 2007, he received a phone call to go to the Ngan Ha Hotel (in Quang Trung Ward, Vinh City) to pick up passengers. Here, Mr. H picked up two young men and drove around the city at the request of the passengers. When they reached the Lam River road in Ben Thuy Ward, these two young men used a knife to control and force Mr. H to stop the car, then used a rope to tie Mr. H to a taluy pole on the side of the road, searched and took away 1,350,000 VND, a gold ring and a mobile phone.
To help reduce potential risks to drivers, taxi companies need to install GPS devices on their vehicles.
According to statistics from the Vinh City Police Criminal Investigation Team, in 2012, there were 2 taxi robberies in the area. For example, on May 22, Tran Manh Cuong (born in 1979, residing in block 15, Le Loi ward), after hiring taxi driver Tran Quoc Duong (born in 1983, hamlet 11, Nghi Lien commune, Vinh city, Mai Linh taxi driver) to take him from address 82, Le Hong Phong to his home in block 15, Le Loi, after arriving at the above address, Cuong and some subjects beat Mr. Duong to appropriate the amount of 865,000 VND.
Recently, on October 25, 2012, in Dong Vinh ward, Vinh city, Hoang Van Tuan (born in 1994, residing in Hung Tay, Hung Nguyen district) used a glass bottle to threaten Le Van Tao (born in 1986, residing in Hung Phu commune, Hung Nguyen district, Mai Linh taxi driver) to appropriate 400,000 VND.
From the taxi robberies that have occurred in the area in recent times, it can be seen that even though the intention to rob a taxi suddenly arose and was prepared in advance, the perpetrators were still very reckless and daring. After taking a taxi, they often asked the driver to drive around before taking him to a deserted place to commit the crime. They threatened to search and take all the driver's property, in addition to cash, including watches, gold...
The reason for this type of crime is due to lack of money, so the subjects do not hesitate to use any means to commit the crime. Meanwhile, because of the goal of serving customers anytime, anywhere, at any time, taxis almost never "dislike" customers. That is also the opportunity for this type of crime to operate, and the first to suffer the consequences are the drivers.
According to Captain Tran Trung Kien - Criminal Police Department of Vinh City: To prevent this type of crime, taxi companies need to improve propaganda work so that drivers have preventive measures. Along with that, it is necessary to build a regulation to coordinate the work of preventing, stopping and fighting against crimes of robbing drivers' property, and set up a hotline with the police force to quickly report information about robberies.
Taxi drivers need to be vigilant when picking up passengers who show signs of suspicion, picking up passengers in deserted places, late at night. Especially, when taking passengers on long trips, to districts or other provinces, they must inform the control center of their destination, so that they can know the route and maintain contact information. It is best to avoid losses, drivers should not carry a lot of money and valuable items and assets when driving.
In case of detecting suspicious signs, quickly find a way to go to the nearest police station for help. If attacked, find a way to immediately notify the company and the nearest police agency to promptly organize an investigation and arrest. Along with the above measures, taxi companies need to install surveillance equipment to facilitate monitoring, as well as to track down the perpetrator if necessary.
