"House of Love" Movement
(Baonghean) Attending the handover ceremony of the house of gratitude to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Can's family in But Ngoc hamlet, An Hoa commune (Quynh Luu), we could see the happiness of this former youth volunteer. She was moved and held our hands tightly, speechless, only able to cry.
The couple is nearly 70 years old but has to work hard to earn a living. The previous house was seriously degraded, and during the rainy season, they could not find shelter. They had to live in that dilapidated house for decades. After many years of wishing, they now have a spacious tiled-roof house of nearly 60 square meters. This is a "House of Charity" donated by the Youth Union members of Quynh Luu 3 High School and Nguyen Duc Mau High School with 30 million VND according to the policy of the District Union, plus hundreds of volunteer working days of An Hoa Commune Youth Union members and the cooperation of brothers and neighbors. This is one of dozens of houses that in recent years, the Quynh Luu District Union has mobilized the youth of the whole district to support money and working days to build for families of former Youth Volunteers in especially difficult circumstances.
It is known that since 2005, Hoang Mai High School Youth Union was the first unit to mobilize young union members to support the construction of "Charity Houses". From the effectiveness of Hoang Mai High School, Quynh Luu District Youth Union Executive Committee has disseminated to all youth union bases in the district, focusing on directing 10 high schools and Continuing Education Centers. After more than 5 years of implementing the movement, the District Youth Union has built 17 new "Charity Houses" with a total amount of hundreds of millions of VND and tens of thousands of volunteer working days. In the Youth Year 2011 alone, 5 new houses worth over 200 million VND were built.
In the next 5 years, Quynh Luu District Youth Union has set a target of continuing to donate 10 “Charity Houses” to policy families with especially difficult circumstances. Through this activity, on the one hand, together with the whole society, we care for those with meritorious services, and on the other hand, we contribute to ensuring social security.
