Prevention of white spot disease in shrimp

(Baonghean) In recent years, white spot disease has frequently appeared in intensive and semi-intensive shrimp farming areas of our province, with mortality rates reaching 100% within 3-5 days. The disease often appears during the transitional season (mid-rainy season or late rainy season - early dry season), when the shrimp are about 45-60 days old. However, disease prevention must be carried out right from the stage of selecting breeds and improving ponds before releasing shrimp.

Causes of disease:

The land has an unsuitable structure and properties for the pond system; not enough water to replace when the pond is dirty or chemical treatment requires water change, the drainage system is not good, causing pollution to the farming area.... In addition, technical factors can also cause shrimp diseases, such as: Not creating the required water color leading to shrimp lacking natural food in the early stages of the farming season; Poor management of pond water quality, unreasonable food management causing pond pollution. In particular, the quality of the seed is also an extremely important factor causing disease outbreaks. Farmers must not choose poor quality seed or seeds carrying pathogens, especially dangerous viral pathogens such as white spot, which not only cause the farming season to fail, but also greatly affect the spread of dangerous pathogens to the pond and farming area in the following crops.

Some measures to prevent and control the disease:

In addition to technical measures for farming, disease prevention, and seed release as recommended, farming facilities need to implement "three no's" and "three yes's" in pond renovation as well as in the entire farming process:

"Three no's": Do not use pesticides or chemicals derived from plant protection drugs to kill crustaceans, trash fish, snails, seaweed, and algae in the pond; do not release shrimp larvae of unknown origin, without quality control and mandatory disease testing; do not discharge water and mud from the pond directly to the outside without treatment.

"Three haves": Must have settling ponds and places to treat wastewater and sludge before releasing them into the outside environment; must apply good farming practices, such as Viet GAP, Global GAP; must participate in membership of cooperatives, associations, farming communities... to support each other in production.
