The wife of the Prime Minister of Vietnam and the wife of the Prime Minister of Laos visited and presented gifts to the SOS Children's Village in Thai Binh.

On the afternoon of January 6, within the framework of the official visit to Vietnam, Ms. Vandara Siphandone, wife of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Ms. Le Thi Bich Tran, wife of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and presented gifts to children in especially difficult circumstances at SOS Children's Village Thai Binh (Thai Binh province).

Here, the two ladies and the delegation visited and learned about the actual living, studying, playing and entertainment activities at some families in SOS Village Thai Binh.

Director of SOS Children's Village Thai Binh Nguyen Van Tan reported that the Village was established in 2013. The Village's mission is to receive, nurture, educate, discover and nurture children's talents, provide career guidance and create conditions for children to develop comprehensively.

From December 22, 2013 to December 2023, the Village has nurtured and supported 218 children. Currently, the Village is nurturing 136 children, of which 82 live in 14 family homes, 31 live in the Youth Hostel, 15 attend college or university, and 8 are semi-independent.

In addition, the Village has 2 children who are married and have a relatively stable life. 100% of the Village's children are cared for and develop comprehensively in health, learning and social skills.

All children of the Village go to schools in the province and outside the province. Notably, the Village has 2 children who are self-taught and have achieved IELTS scores of 7.5 or higher; many children are studying at top universities in the country. Regarding the childcare program by relatives in the community, the Village has supported 310 children and is currently supporting 32 children to study at university...

On the same day, the two ladies and the delegation visited the linen weaving village in Nam Cao commune, Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh province.

Here, the two ladies took a walking tour of the silk village, visited the over 100-year-old house typical of the North, visited the Nam Cao Silk Weaving Cooperative, watched artisans spinning and spinning silk, listened to Cheo singing, enjoyed green tea and Thai Binh specialty rice cakes, experienced silk spinning and spinning with artisans...

The linen weaving profession in Nam Cao commune is over 400 years old and has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Currently, there are still about 200 households in the village still attached to this traditional profession. Notably, 60% of the linen products of this craft village are handmade. The linen products of the village are mainly exported to countries such as Laos, Thailand, Europe, etc.
