Quynh Luu women and the "Saving money tubes and rice jars" movement
(Baonghean) -The movement “Money tubes, rice jars for saving” is a very practical and effective way to follow Uncle Ho in the Campaign “Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh” of the Women's Union of Quynh Luu district. This example became one of two collectives in Nghe An province to be awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the President and was honored at the Conference to summarize 4 years of implementing the Campaign in the capital Hanoi.
According to the report of Ms. Ho Thi Thuy Hang (Vice President of Quynh Luu Women's Union): The movement has profound political significance, affecting the feelings and responsibilities of all levels of women's unions and members, so Quynh Luu Women's Union has many activities in response. The Union participated well in the contests "Telling stories about Ho Chi Minh's moral example" and "Building standards and ethics of female cadres and members".
Since August 25, 2008, the Standing Committee of the Association has directed the grassroots to implement the plan "Following Uncle Ho" through the form of savings tubes and rice jars, creating a widespread movement. On that basis, the Association has selected 6 units as pilot units, which are the women's associations of Quynh Van, Quynh Long, Quynh Bang, Quynh Tan, Quynh Dien and Tan Son communes. Reporters from 43 communes participated in propagating the movement of "Saving tubes and rice jars" to nearly 550 branches.
By doing so, in the third quarter of 2008 alone, the women's associations of 43 communes in Quynh Luu responded to the "Saving money tubes and rice jars" movement, collecting nearly 295 million VND and 18.5 tons of rice to help more than 400 members in difficult circumstances. During the implementation process, many women's associations appeared with good methods. That is, the Quynh Lap commune association organized a cultural exchange night "Connecting loving arms" to raise more than 14 million VND. This amount of money was used by the commune women's association to help a member's family who had a shipwreck at sea and to support the construction of a house for a poor member's family. The Quynh Xuan commune women's association, through its branches, mobilized more than 17.3 million VND and 150 kg of rice to help 5 families in difficult circumstances. The women's associations of Quynh Van and Quynh Thach communes also collected over 10 million VND through savings to give to 20 disadvantaged members on the occasion of the association's traditional day of October 20. Women of Tan Son commune donated nearly 11 million VND to support household items for poor women's families...
Implementing the movement "following Uncle Ho", the women's associations of Quynh Vinh and Tien Thuy communes and Cau Giat town encouraged their members' children to get married according to the new lifestyle, have frugal weddings, and not organize lavish meals, which was welcomed by public opinion.
Along with the form of “Money tubes, rice jars for saving”, since 2009, the Women’s Union of Quynh Luu has also directed the grassroots to build “Warm houses of love” with the participation of the Party Committee, government, and organizations. Through that, the whole district mobilized more than 390 million VND and built 23 houses, repaired 12 houses for poor members and those in difficult circumstances. The District Women’s Union alone donated 60 million VND to build 4 houses for poor members in Quynh Loc, Quynh Tho, Quynh Vinh, and Ngoc Son communes.
Comrade Vo Van Dung (Head of the District Party Committee's Propaganda Department, Standing member of the Steering Committee of the Quynh Luu District Movement) said: The District Women's Union is always the leading unit in the bloc of mass organizations. From the movement "Money tubes, rice savings jars" to "Warm houses of love" of the Women's Union at all levels in the district, it has created an impression and trust in the community and multiplied the spirit of mutual love and support, helping members to improve their lives.
