Close aide to South Korean president arrested

South Korean prosecutors have arrested a longtime aide to President Lee Myung-bak on bribery charges.




Kim Hee-jung was arrested on the evening of July 24 for allegedly accepting money and goods worth about $87,000 from a bank president. Kim held a senior position in the presidential office.


He is the third person in the presidential office to be arrested. The president's brother was also arrested for allegedly taking bribes while he was a lawmaker.


Earlier in the day, President Lee apologized to the public for a series of scandals involving people close to him.
