The Tam Nong District Agricultural Extension Station in Phu Tho Province has successfully tested several new rice varieties with superior yield and quality, adding them to the province's crop structure in the coming years.

The model was implemented during the 2013 spring crop season, covering an area of 32.5 hectares across six communes, including varieties such as DH 18, TBR 117, TBR 27, TBR 288, TBR 225, Thai Xuyen, etc.

The results showed that these new varieties have a short growing season, are resistant to adverse environmental conditions and pests, and produce high-quality rice. In particular, these varieties yield very high productivity, ranging from 233 to 355 kg/sao, compared to the control Khang Dan rice variety commonly grown in the area.

Many varieties yield exceptionally high productivity, such as the DH 18 rice variety which reaches 355 kg/sao, the Dai Duong 8 rice variety with a yield of 256 kg/sao, and the TBR 266 variety with a yield of 246 kg/sao...

The rice varieties TBR 27, TBR 117, TBR 288, and TBR 225 have very strong tillering, compact clumps, beautiful plant shape, upright leaves, concentrated flowering, large panicles, long, slender grains, dark brown husks, and white parenchyma. They have fairly good resistance to pests and diseases, especially blast disease in the spring and bacterial leaf blight in the autumn. Cooked rice from these varieties is delicious, sticky, and fragrant.

The model's results will serve as a basis for farmers to gradually replace low-yielding, low-quality rice varieties, while also creating a foundation for investment, intensive cultivation, and expansion of commercial rice production in the province.
