The plan to take 2 days off before Tet receives support

This agency believes that taking two days off before Tet is convenient for workers living far away to travel home by train or bus, and for people to have time to shop for Tet.

Speaking to the press on the morning of October 5,Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Tran Thanh Hai said that the agency supports the plan to give workers two days off before Tet.

PThis plan helps workers have enough time to arrange their work and prepare plans to celebrate the traditional Tet holiday. Many workers in the Central and Southern regions who have to work far from home can buy train and bus tickets to return home to celebrate Tet.Businesses also do not have to arrange for workers to have too long a break after Tet.

"Buying train and bus tickets and traveling is still difficult. If we only give workers one day off in advance, it will be difficult for them," said Mr. Hai.

Last week, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs announced two options for the 2018 Lunar New Year holiday to seek opinions from the ministries and agencies. One is to have two days off before Tet and five days off after Tet (from February 14, 2018 to February 20, 2018, or from December 29 to January 5 of the lunar calendar).Option two is to take one day off before Tet and six days off after Tet (from February 15, 2018 to February 21, 2018).

According to the Ministry of Labor, although the number of days off is seven, option one is more harmonious and suitable because the number of days off before Tet is two days which is not too short, and the number of days off after Tet is five days which is in accordance with regulations.

With option two, after Tet holiday, workers go to work for two days before the weekend, which can affect their psychology and make them less serious. With the above analysis, the Ministry of Labor proposes to implement the Lunar New Year holiday schedule according to option one.
