Hung Dung Ward received the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces

(Baonghean) - On the evening of April 24, the Party Committee, government and people of Hung Dung ward, Vinh city solemnly held a ceremony to receive the title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces.

At the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Nhu Hai - Chairman of Hung Dung Ward People's Committee reviewed the glorious tradition and contributions of the Party Committee and people of Hung Dung in the two resistance wars for national independence and protection of the Fatherland. In particular, in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement, Hung Dung was one of the pioneers... During the resistance war against the US to save the country, from 1964 to 1973, Hung Dung commune suffered 592 bombings by the US imperialists with 5,674 bombs, 104 rockets, 350 artillery shells; B52 aircraft once carpet-bombed the entire houses of Tan Dinh hamlet, causing Hung Dung to burn down, at that time becoming a land of fire.

However, the revolutionary spirit of the "Red Village" remained intact. Hung Dung's soldiers and people were not afraid of danger, hardships, and the whole village took turns standing guard next to the artillery. On September 1, 1967, Hung Dung's militia on duty shot down the first American jet plane when it reached the sky of Vinh city.

By the end of the war, Hung Dung militia and people had helped tens of thousands of army units and vehicles temporarily stay and take shelter in people's houses to wait for a favorable time to cross Ben Thuy ferry; built over 30 battle positions, dug more than 3 km of trenches connecting hamlets, and 270 tunnels to hide vehicles, artillery, weapons and ammunition for the army.

During the two resistance wars against France and the US, nearly 270 children sacrificed their lives for the Fatherland, and 5 mothers were awarded the title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother. With outstanding achievements in the 1969 war, Hung Dung militia was recognized by the President as a Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces; Hung Dung ward was awarded the Military Exploit and War Exploit Medals and many Certificates of Merit of various types by the President.

In the renovation process, Hung Dung has focused its intelligence to propose many solutions to accelerate growth and has achieved encouraging results: Average growth reached 8.8%, average income reached 21.7 million VND/person/year; people's lives were improved, urban infrastructure was improved and strongly invested in development, socio-economic targets were all achieved and exceeded; Total production value at the end of the term reached 634 billion VND, exceeding the target set by the Resolution.
