Premier League opens summer market: Hottest news
Today (May 17), the summer transfer window officially opens, starting with the bustling Premier League. Below is the hottest information related to the 2018 summer market.
Premier League opens 17/5, closes 9/8
Unlike usual, from this summer, the shopping of Premier League clubs will take place early and end before the first round starts.
Mourinho, Pep and Klopp will "race" the new season together from now on. |
Specifically, today the 2018 summer transfer window officially opens (previously on June 1), and will end before 5pm (local time) on Thursday, August 9, before the first round of the Premier League kicks off this weekend (August 11).
After this time, Premier League clubs are not allowed to make new purchases, but they can still sell players to other clubs (outside this tournament) until the end of August 31.
This is the reason why Mourinho wants MU to "hit the market quickly" this summer, so that he has time to assemble the best squad for the new season, with the goal of "taking" neighbor Man City off the throne.
Why this change?
Last September, the clubs voted to agree to close the shopping window before the new Premier League season starts, moving from August 31 to August 9.
The vibrant summer market is back. |
This is to ensure all teams confirm their squads before the season starts on 11 August, to avoid players moving from club to club once the season has started, as happened last summer when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain moved from Arsenal to Liverpool.
What about the European transfer market?
England is the only country where clubs have voted to change the opening and closing times of the transfer window, bringing it up to an earlier date.
In France, the summer market begins on June 9.
In Italy and Germany, the transfer window opens on July 1, while in Spain it is July 2.
All four markets end on August 31.
