PSG entered the match on the evening of May 27 as the reigning National Cup champions and were rated much higher than Angers, the team that finished 12th in Ligue I last season.
However, in the 90 minutes of official play, PSG's strikers did not find the net once. Di Maria, Cavani and Matuidi shot wide or failed to beat goalkeeper Letellier. The Angers goalkeeper had an excellent evening, blocking a series of shots that looked like they would have scored from PSG.
However, Letellier's brilliance only helped him defend against opposition players, not his teammates. Cissokho's close-range header into his own goal after a corner kick from the right wing was beyond Letellier's ability.
The win over Angers ensured PSG completed a domestic double this season, having previously crushed Monaco in the League Cup final. This is the third consecutive season that PSG have won both the French Cup and the League Cup, a consolation prize after failing to defend their Ligue 1 title.
Winning the National Cup, PSG also repeated their own impressive achievement in 1993 when they won the championship without conceding any goals throughout the journey.
In addition, this is a special milestone for defender Maxwell. The former Barca and Inter player won the 37th title of his career, helping him maintain his record as the player with the most prolific career in world football.
Ending the season with two titles, it was not a smooth time for coach Unai Emery. PSG agreed to part ways with Laurent Blanc to hire Emery in order to improve the team, but what this coach did was not impressive. Emery could not help PSG defend the Ligue 1 championship and suffered an embarrassing 1-6 defeat to Barca in the Champions League, causing the team to be eliminated despite leading 4-0 after the first leg.
