Going into their trip to Montpellier, PSG needed just a point to secure their title with a game to spare. However, they did better, scoring two early goals through Blaise Matuidi and Ezequiel Lavezzi. The home side pulled one back in the first half through Anthony Mounier, but PSG held on for a 2-1 win until the end.

PSG became the fourth team to win Ligue 1 three consecutive seasons after Saint Etienne, Marseille and Lyon. This is also the fifth Ligue 1 championship in the history of the Paris capital team.

Coach Laurent Blanc and his team still have a chance to make history by becoming the first team to win the domestic treble. In the League Cup final a month ago, PSG crushed Bastia 4-0. They have a national cup final against Auxerre on May 30.

In the match against Montpellier, PSG was without their main striker Ibrahimovic due to injury. However, this did not affect much the team's attack, which has scored 17 goals in the last four matches.

Behind them, Lyon finished second and secured a spot in the Champions League group stage with PSG. Third place and a Champions League qualifying spot will be a race between Monaco, Marseille and Saint Etienne until the final round, with Monaco having a two-point advantage over their rivals.

At the bottom of the table, three teams were relegated: Evian, Metz and Lens.
