In addition, Moscow is developing many other new weapons, including a high-endurance, stealthy underwater drone that can be equipped with a nuclear warhead to deal with enemy aircraft carrier groups as well as attack coastal defense systems.
However, President Putin said that all moves to strengthen Russia's military power were defensive and within the framework of international agreements. "We have never intended to attack anyone. Russia will only respond if attacked. Russia remains interested in building normal relations with the US and the EU," he concluded.
The annual state of the nation address provides an overview of the current situation in Russia and outlines the main directions of domestic and foreign policy for the coming years. The first state of the nation address was delivered by former President Boris Yeltsin in February 1994.
