Indonesian authorities have decided to continue searching for three more days in the waters where the plane carrying 189 people crashed. The search operation was originally scheduled to end on November 4. The decision to extend the search for victims and the black boxes of the Lion Air plane that crashed into the Java Sea was based on assessments and observations of the crash site, said Muhammad Syaugi, director of the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), noting that many body parts have yet to be recovered.

To date, 105 body bags, mostly containing body parts, have been recovered and handed over to police for forensic examination. However, Indonesian forensic experts have only identified seven victims. "I am sure the number will increase," Syaugi said.

South Korean military officials said the two sides had hoisted the flag, which measures 4 meters long and 3 meters wide, at a total of 22 guard posts as a sign that they would be removed. The two sides agreed to “pilot” the removal of guard posts in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), a key part of efforts to turn the buffer zone into a “peace zone”.

On November 4, the people of the French Pacific archipelago of New Caledonia decided not to separate from France in a referendum on the territory's independence. According to the results of the vote announced, of the 57% of votes counted, about 90% of these votes said no to the intention of separating New Caledonia from France.

Today’s vote is being held as a result of a 1998 peace agreement between the independence claimants, the predominantly Kanak people, and immigrants, mainly from Europe. However, this referendum is not the final vote on New Caledonia’s separation from France. According to the 1998 agreement, if 30% of New Caledonian parliamentarians agree to hold a referendum, the island nation will continue to ask the people’s opinion on this important decision in 2020 and 2022.

The US Department of Defense has rejected President Donald Trump’s request to send troops to the border with Mexico to stop the caravan of migrants from reaching the country. The US Department of Defense said this was outside its responsibility, but the Army would still support border patrol and border protection forces in monitoring the flow of migrants, as well as providing necessary logistical support.

The Department of Homeland Security has been tasked by the US government with calling in military reserves to help control the flow of migrants and facilitate the work of customs and border guards at the border with Mexico. Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump announced the deployment of the military to the border to stop the flow of migrants, while warning that he would allow the military to open fire if migrants attacked them with bricks and rocks.
