ASEAN-China senior officials discuss DOC
On November 1, in the capital Phnom Penh of Cambodia, senior officials of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China held a workshop to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), reported Xinhua.
In his opening speech at the above workshop, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong stated: "The workshop is an opportunity for both sides, ASEAN and China, to really review how to maintain the vitality of the DOC to resolve current issues in the East Sea."

Mr. Hor Namhong reaffirmed that ASEAN and China had previously signed the above-mentioned milestone document in Phnom Penh in 2002, when Cambodia held the ASEAN chairmanship for the first time, with the aim of turning the East Sea into a sea of lasting peace, stability, friendship and cooperation for the common interests of all parties.
Meanwhile, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Fu Ying said that this two-day conference is a rare opportunity to continue to strengthen mutual trust, promote cooperation, and jointly maintain peace and stability in the East Sea.
Ms. Pho Oanh also affirmed that China is committed to fully and effectively implementing the DOC, and is ready to cooperate with ASEAN member countries to continuously make efforts to implement the DOC...
"The DOC signed by China and all 10 ASEAN member states is binding on all parties. It is the common responsibility and duty of China and ASEAN member states to pursue and implement the DOC effectively," she said./.
