(Baonghean.vn) - The US uses nuclear weapons as a preemptive strike weapon, while Russia does not use them as a means of intimidation or a first strike weapon, but only uses them to respond when attacked.

Russian Senator Konstantin Dolgov believes that there is a big difference in the views on the use of nuclear weapons between Russia and the United States. He explained that an example that demonstrates the use of nuclear weapons by the United States is the historical event of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

“The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a crime committed by the United States against the Japanese people. From a military point of view, this terrible decision was unnecessary. As a result, the world witnessed a huge number of victims and devastation. Many generations of Japanese people still suffer from serious diseases,” said Senator Konstantin Dolgov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy.

“I think that in the current positions of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the behavior is completely shameful. At events commemorating the victims of the atomic bombing, it seems that people are very afraid to name the perpetrators of this crime,” Mr. Dolgov said.

Senator Dolgov commented that Tokyo seems to be pursuing a deliberate policy of not influencing the United States.

On the contrary, Mr. Dolgov said that, unlike the US, Russia does not use nuclear weapons as a means of intimidation, and as a first-strike weapon. Russia's policy strategy in the field of nuclear weapons allows them to be used in response to an attack on Russia, or when there is an existential threat to the country's very existence. Meanwhile, Washington has always allowed the use of nuclear weapons as a first-strike weapon.

This is the fundamental difference between Russia and the United States in nuclear weapons.

“Today, the United States is trying to cover up the use of nuclear weapons in Japan, similar to all the war crimes committed by the United States in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yugoslavia and many other places in the world. They have never even apologized for these inhumane actions against the affected people,” Dolgov said.

On August 6, 1945, the US Armed Forces dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later, on August 9, 1945, the US dropped a second atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki. According to figures from Ria Novosti, about 220,000 Japanese people died from the two explosions, and more than 200,000 died from radiation poisoning.

The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the only examples in human history of the use of nuclear weapons in war. At the same time, from a military point of view, the nuclear bombing of two peaceful Japanese cities is inexplicable.
