North Korean army drops one million leaflets on border
According to AFP and AP, on January 18, the South Korean Defense Ministry announced that North Korea had scattered nearly 1 million leaflets in South Korea in the past week, an escalation in the propaganda war stemming from Pyongyang's most recent nuclear test.

According to the Ministry, the North Korean military launches balloons almost every day and it is estimated that the number of leaflets dropped by Pyongyang in the border area has reached nearly 1 million. Most of the leaflets were collected near the border in Gyeonggi Province.
This leaflet-dropping activity by North Korea is considered a rare move because the two Koreas officially ended psychological warfare as part of measures to reduce tensions in 2004.
However, South Korea resumed anti-Pyongyang propaganda broadcasts in the border area after North Korea announced its successful hydrogen bomb test on January 6. In response, the North also took similar actions along with a campaign of spreading anti-South leaflets in the border./.
