In an interview with Bloomberg News on October 10, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said that the cooling economic relationship between Japan and China due to tensions over disputed islands will harm both countries.

Mr. Noda's comments came amid growing concerns that deteriorating relations between Japan and China will have a negative impact on the two countries' economies as well as on trade between the two countries and the world.

According to Prime Minister Noda, to avoid the above adverse effects, the two countries with the second and third largest economies in the world need to hold consultations.

He also affirmed that the Japanese Government will take drastic action if the yen is affected and gets out of control.

China has decided not to send top financial officials to the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) taking place in the Japanese capital Tokyo.

However, on October 10, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei called on Japan to return to negotiations with China on the issue of the disputed Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands.

Meanwhile, Kyodo News Agency said Japan is considering ways to ease tensions between the two countries, while continuing to affirm Tokyo's stance that there is no official territorial dispute over the islands./.
