The 3-day funeral for Ms. Nguyen Thi Dat (born in 1989) had just passed, so the house next to Son market, Nghi Thach commune was still crowded with people, the faces of relatives were still shocked by the sudden and tragic passing of the young mother. Mr. Nguyen Quang Minh (Ms. Dat's father-in-law) sadly said: My poor daughter-in-law, before she passed away, she could not see her children because that night, Nguyen Quang Sang and Nguyen Anh Ngoc were with their grandfather (in Chua 1 hamlet, Nghi Thiet commune - Nghi Loc).

As for Ms. Mai Thi Loan, Dat's biological mother, she choked up: Normally, at around 4am, Dat locks the door so his two children can sleep in the house and then goes to Nghi Phu (Vinh City) to buy wholesale hams to supply to breakfast restaurants at Cua Lo Seafood Market and Son Market. The children seem to know their place, so when their mother is away from home, they are very obedient and play with each other, waiting for their mother to come home, never crying for her... However, after a night's sleep, the children have to wear white clothes and mourning scarves without understanding what is happening.

Looking at the two children standing alone at their mother's altar, Ngoc is 5 years old but can't speak clearly, everyone feels sorry...

The children's father, Nguyen Quang Hanh (born in 1977), was murdered in 2013, when Dat was only two months pregnant with Sang, and Ngoc was very weak. At 3 years old, she still couldn't walk. At 5 years old, she couldn't speak clearly. Her eyes were deformed and she couldn't see clearly. The couple had to take their child to the hospital regularly, where the doctor concluded that she was malnourished and had rickets.

Spending all their assets to pay for their child's treatment, while both husband and wife do not have stable jobs, they discussed borrowing money from the bank so that Mr. Hanh could go to Angola to work for a few years to earn some capital.

After completing all the procedures, when he arrived at the airport, Mr. Hanh was told that the other side was looking for a person with the same name, so Mr. Hanh could not leave the country. He went back and forth from Nghi Loc to Vinh city to claim his deposit back, but on January 21, 2013, when Mr. Hanh and his father went to Vinh city to claim the money, they were stabbed to death by a group of thugs.

Since the day mother passed away, grandparents had to take turns taking care of the children.

Since her husband passed away, Ms. Dat has been completely devastated. After giving birth in pain, she tried to get up and go import pork rolls for breakfast restaurants in Cua Lo Town...

Waking up at 4am to import pork rolls, Ms. Dat often has to send her two children to her grandparents in Nghi Thiet commune, Nghi Loc district. Many shop owners, seeing the mother working hard to raise her two children, took pity on her and created conditions for her to import pork rolls.

On the fateful morning of July 20, her truck carrying pork rolls was crushed by a pickup truck. Ms. Dat suffered a traumatic brain injury and died on the way to the emergency room at 5am. Her two young children had no idea what had happened. The next morning, seeing the house full of people, she still bragged: “Mom Dat is selling pork rolls, when she comes back at noon she will put the baby to sleep”…

Their parents died when they were still very young, so their future is currently very uncertain.

Since the day Ms. Dat passed away, the two children have been orphaned. Looking at the bewildered eyes of the two children in their grandparents' arms, no one could hold back their tears.

The two children's grandfather is 80 years old, the maternal grandparents are also over 60 years old, and have no stable source of income. After finishing the funeral for Dat, the grandparents could only hold their grandchildren in their arms, not knowing how to cope with life and the future...
