Donetsk separatists confirm shooting down a Su-25 attack aircraft

The government of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) confirmed on August 3 that it had shot down a Ukrainian army Su-25 attack aircraft.

The plane was spotted between the towns of Yenakiyevo and Makiivka in the Donetsk region, a DPR spokesman was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying. The search for the pilot is continuing.

The plane is believed to have been shot down on August 2, but militants cannot confirm this information until they find the wreckage.

Previously, on July 24, the spokesman of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Mr. Andriy Lysenko, accused missiles launched from Russian territory of shooting down two Su-25s of the Ukrainian Air Force in the Donetsk region.
