Libyan rebels capture another town in Tripoli
Libyan rebel spokesman Abdulrahman said on August 14 that the force had captured the coastal town of Surman, 70 km west of the capital Tripoli.
"Today, the revolutionary forces entered the center of Surman town. We now have complete control of this town. The fighting here is over," said Mr. Abdulrahman.
The authenticity of the information is yet to be verified. Earlier, the rebels also entered Zawiyah, not far from Surman.
Previously, Reuters quoted a reporter from the agency on August 14 saying that Libyan rebel gunmen had taken control of the city center of Zawiyah, about 50 km west of the capital Tripoli.
Zawiyah is the closest frontline to Tripoli that rebels have captured since the uprising against Gaddafi's regime began.
