Rebels kill Syrian parliament speaker's brother
Syria's official news agency SANA reported that on November 6, "terrorists" stopped a car and shot dead Mohammad Osama al-Laham, the younger brother of the current Syrian Parliament Speaker, while he was on his way to work in the suburbs of the capital Damascus.
Details of the incident have not been released and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) has previously claimed responsibility for more than a dozen similar attacks targeting government officials and Syrian military generals.
Last week, the FSA claimed responsibility for the attack that killed General Abdullah Mahmud al-Khalidi of the Syrian air force.
The killing of Mr al-Laham came just a day after the funeral of prominent Syrian-Palestinian television presenter Mohamed Rafeh, who was pro-government and openly opposed to armed rebels.
In another development, on November 6, Türkiye's state-run Anadolu news agency reported that seven Syrian army generals had defected to Turkey and were being heavily guarded in the town of Reyhanli, Hatay province, southern Turkey./.
