Vietnamese players have had successful tournaments in the past two years and only lost to the world number two in the final.

The prestigious tournament in the US just ended on the morning of October 13, the Vietnamese player missed out on the championship title and the $100,000 prize when he lost to the world's second-ranked opponent Hikaru Nakamura in the final match.

Despite being a world-class rapid chess expert, Quang Liem still could not equalize the gap in class with Nakamura in the final match of two rapid chess games. In the first game, the Ho Chi Minh City player held the white pieces but was somewhat mentally challenged, making some immature moves, and quickly lost the game to his Japanese-American opponent. The veteran player took full advantage of the opportunity, winning after 42 moves. In the second game, with the advantage of holding the white pieces, Nakamura developed a tight and solid game, forcing Quang Liem to accept a draw in the 30th move. With a 1.5-0.5 win, Nakamura stepped up to the highest position and $100,000.

However, the US tournament is considered Quang Liem's most successful tournament in the past two years. In terms of achievements, the runner-up position also proved a breakthrough compared to last year's tournament when Liem stopped right in the qualifying round, only finishing 23rd overall. With the runner-up position, the 24-year-old player received a prize of 50,000 USD, equivalent to 1.1 billion VND.
