At 12 noon on December 18, the coffin of Sergeant Truong Van Tu (20 years old) was brought back to his hometown (Hamlet 1, Dien Truong Commune, Dien Chau District, Nghe An). Sergeant Tu died just under a month before he was discharged from the army to return to his family.
Unlike usual days, today it was 11am but Mr. Truong Van Chien's house (Sergeant Tu's father) was still packed with people. Around 12pm, the car carrying Sergeant Tu's coffin arrived at the end of the alley. Many people could not hold back their tears at the sacred moment of seeing his coffin wrapped in the red flag with yellow star. The poor people here all mourned for Sergeant Tu when there was only about 1 month left until he was discharged from the army and returned to his family. Tears rolled down the faces of the farmers who had mud on their hands and feet all year round.
Mr. Truong Minh Duc (58 years old, Sergeant Tu's uncle) confided, when receiving the bad news, Tu's brother and I took a bus to Da Nang at 11:30 pm on December 16. After holding Tu's memorial service in Da Nang, at around 11:00 pm last night (December 17), his body was taken by car back to his hometown for burial.
“Tu is a dutiful son. When he was in high school, due to family circumstances, his parents had to go far away to work. Tu had to stay home alone and take care of himself. More than a month ago, Tu came back to visit his family. He even said he was about to return home, but…” – Mr. Duc said.
It is known that in 2013, after graduating from high school, Truong Van Tu registered for military service in the navy and set off on a sacred mission for the Fatherland. He was then sent to study military nursing and was assigned to Group 885, Engineering Brigade E83 (Navy) to carry out his mission.
On December 16, on his way to duty, he passed away forever.
On the afternoon of December 18, in his hometown of Dien Truong - Dien Chau, family, comrades, neighbors, and authorities held a funeral to send soldier Truong Van Tu to his final resting place in infinite sorrow.
