Que Phong: Support farmers with 270 million VND to control small leaf rollers

(Baonghean.vn) - In the 2015 crop season, the entire Que Phong district planted nearly 2,200 hectares of rice, however, up to now, more than 1,000 hectares of rice have been infected with various pests and diseases.

As for small leaf rollers, there are 400 hectares at severe and moderate levels. Density is 30 - 40 individuals/m2 in high places, 50 - 60 individuals/m2, in some places over 100 individuals/m2 concentrated in communes such as Tri Le, Hanh Dich, Chau Kim, Muong Noc. Besides, planthoppers tend to increase, from 300 - 400 individuals/m2 in high places, 700 - 800 individuals/m2, in some places over 1000 individuals/m2.

Faced with that situation, the District People's Committee decided to support people with 50% of the cost of buying pesticides to prevent leaf rollers, equivalent to 270 million VND, of which Muong Noc commune received 36 million VND.

In addition to supporting people with money to buy medicine, Que Phong district also directed the grassroots to actively prevent and control small leaf rollers and brown planthoppers in the 2015 crop. Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and staff of the Plant Protection Station were required to regularly visit the fields and monitor the growth of pests and diseases to come up with appropriate prevention plans. For heavily infected areas, people were instructed to spray medicine simultaneously. At the same time, information and propaganda work was strengthened, instructing people on effective prevention methods to minimize damage caused by rice pests and diseases.
