Que Phong: Exciting "Long Tong" Festival
(Baonghean.vn) -From January 31 to February 1, 2012, farmers in Chau Kim, Muong Noc, Tien Phong, Que Son, Chau Thon, Quang Phong communes... in Que Phong district (Nghe An) organized the "Long Tong" (going to the fields) Festival, according to the customs of the Thai ethnic group.
After Tet, farmers bring rice wine, boiled chicken, sticky rice, bamboo rice... to the fields to pray for luck, hoping that the local gods will bless the farmers with favorable weather and bountiful crops.
Farmers in Que Phong district eagerly go to the fields.
At the “Long Tong” ceremony, ethnic people listened to the district disseminate the agricultural calendar and production plan for 2012. The total area of 2,330 hectares of spring rice is expected to be completed before February 25, 2012, of which 70% of the area is hybrid rice; 30% is pure rice and local rice with high yield. To ensure the planned productivity and output, the district has supported investment and provided communes with 422 tons of lime powder and 188 tons of fertilizer for farmers to fertilize their rice.
The festival marks the first day of production in the new year, a festival for ethnic groups, where young men and women meet each other to both produce and exchange cultures. In the working atmosphere, there are songs, folk songs, and folk songs. After the festival, people form groups (to borrow) and take turns helping each other until they finish planting, weeding, and harvesting.
