Que Phong successfully organized the production of new rice varieties.
(Baonghean)Coming to Muong Noc, Tri Le, Que Phong district these days, people in the villages are bustling and talking about a new "cold-resistant" rice variety that is productive and delicious and is currently being tested on a large scale. That is the Japonica rice variety originating from the land of cherry blossoms, developed by the Department of V and the Vietnam Agricultural Genetics Institute.
With the desire to increase income, introduce more occupations... for the local people in Que Phong, in 2010, the Secretary of the Que Phong District Party Committee - Comrade Tran Quoc Thanh personally researched and applied the Japonica rice variety in Que Phong.
In 2010, with the amount of seeds brought back less than 300 kg and the seeds were of temperate origin, there was no soaking, incubation, production process... so it was only enough to sow and plant less than 5 sao. Typical examples of good sowing and incubation to organize sowing and planting were Mr. Lo Xuan Thu - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee and Mr. Lo Xuan Phong - Secretary of Tri Le Commune. With a very small sowing area, the results were very positive, because the rice showed adaptation to local conditions, giving a good yield, a large number of effective flowers, a high firmness rate, and delicious rice quality.
With the results obtained, the People's Committee of Que Phong district directed the organization to purchase all the seeds and continue to organize experimental production in the spring crop of 2011. As a result, the experimental model in 2011 continued to give good results. In 2012, the People's Committee of the district continued to purchase and distribute seeds for testing in the spring crop of 2012. In the spring crop of 2012, in addition to the 5 hectares of experimental model in Tri Le commune (due to the high altitude compared to sea level, the climate conditions are suitable for Japonica rice), the locality continued to arrange 10 hectares in Muong Noc commune.
As a result, in Muong Noc, rice has a shorter growing period (150 days) than in Tri Le, with a yield of 6.5 tons/ha. In fact, in the field, the above rice variety has shown good adaptation, lays well, has many flowers, has a high percentage of solid grains, and has a yield equivalent to the hybrid rice variety Nhi Uu 838 under the same conditions. In particular, the quality of the rice is delicious and fragrant, and is considered suitable for producing high-quality rice.
Japonika rice is a purebred rice variety, so people can keep their own seeds. If there is seed exchange among people, the price of seeds is also very low compared to Nhi Uu 838 hybrid rice variety as well as many other hybrid rice varieties (only about 10-15% of the price of hybrid rice varieties), so investing in rice production will contribute to proactive seeds and reduce investment.
Currently, the transaction price of rice in many localities is only around 5,000 VND - 5,500 VND/kg and the state-regulated purchase price of rice is 6,000 VND/kg, the new Japonica rice variety has been contracted by Nghia Dan Agricultural Supplies Company to be purchased in the field at a price of 10,500 VND/kg.
This is a new rice variety that has not been officially recognized, however, after 3 production seasons, it has shown to be suitable for the conditions in Que Phong, giving quite high yield, especially good quality rice. In the coming spring season, all levels and sectors need to continue to evaluate in different ecological conditions, soon have official conclusions to have a basis for expanding production, increasing income for rice growers in general and Thai, Thanh, Kho Mu, Mong people of Que Phong district in particular.
