US Congress unexpectedly expresses "tiredness" of sanctions against Russia
The US Congress appears to be “a little tired” of initiatives to impose new sanctions on Russia over Moscow’s alleged interference in the US election.
This is reported by Bloomberg, citing Senator Marco Rubio, one of the authors of the bill on sanctions against Russia.
“We are facing some sanctions fatigue these days,” said the Republican senator from Florida.
“Sanctions are often a double-edged sword… So we really need to take a step back and assess where we are at this point and what can be done,” said Sen. Ron Johnson.
He expressed hope that he would be able to “engage more people” with the initiative.
As the news agency notes, many senators still intend to hold Russia accountable for “its actions in the United States and other countries,” but there is currently “no consensus on how to send the Kremlin the right signal.”
