The National Assembly proceeded to dismiss President Truong Tan Sang.
Late in the morning of March 31, delegates began discussing in groups about the dismissal of the President according to the report of the National Assembly Standing Committee.
The results of the discussion and secret ballot to dismiss the President are expected to be announced at 3 p.m. this afternoon. Delegates will pass the resolution on dismissal immediately afterward.
The list of nominees for the position of President was discussed at the delegation and voted on on April 2.
The successor of Mr. Truong Tan Sang, as introduced by the Central Committee, is Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang.

Mr. Truong Tan Sang (67 years old), from Long An, was elected President in July 2011.
Starting from the grassroots with the positions of Director of Pham Van Hai Farm, Director of the Forestry Department, Secretary of Binh Chanh District Party Committee (HCMC), in 1988, he became Director of the Department of Agriculture, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, Vice Chairman and then Chairman of the HCMC People's Committee.
During the period 1996-2000, he was a member of the Politburo and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee. In the following six years, he assumed the position of Head of the Central Economic Commission.
From 2006 to 2011, he was a member of the Politburo, Standing member of the Secretariat.National Assembly delegate of terms 9, 10, 11 and 13.
At the 12th Party Congress, he, along with National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, did not participate in the new Executive Committee.
