Venezuela's National Assembly grants President Maduro special powers
AFP reported that on March 15, the Venezuelan National Assembly granted President Nicolas Maduro special powers to decide on defense and public security issues amid escalating confrontation with the United States.
After two hours of debate, lawmakers voted to approve special powers for President Maduro, effective until the end of 2015. The Venezuelan government also called for anti-US marches.

Venezuela is conducting 10 days of nationwide military exercises as the country faces a deep economic crisis and severe shortages of most basic goods.
