On May 6, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern that the chances of external military intervention in Syria are increasing after Israel carried out airstrikes in the Syrian capital.
In a statement, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Alexander Lukashevich stressed that the escalation of armed confrontation increases the risks of creating new areas of tension and destabilizing the region. According to him, the internationalization of the internal conflict in Syria is unacceptable and these are alarming signs.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman also called on the international community to take decisive actions to turn events in Syria towards peace.
On the same day, China spoke out against the use of force, calling on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions after Israel's airstrikes on Syrian territory. Speaking at a regular press conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said: "We believe that the current situation in the region is complex and sensitive. China opposes the use of military force and believes that the sovereignty of any country must be respected. China also calls on all relevant parties to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions, and together safeguard regional peace and stability."
The EU also expressed “deep concern about recent developments in and outside Syria”, warning of “the risk of pushing the region into a wider conflict” and calling on all parties to seek a political solution.

Those who support this aggression do not represent the will of the Syrian people. We call on the international community to make efforts to prevent Israel from exploiting the situation in Syria to achieve its goals.”
On the same day, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem affirmed that Syria has the right to respond to Israel after the country's army recently launched airstrikes on Syrian military facilities in the capital Damascus. Mr. Walid al-Moallem said that, "according to international law and the UN Charter, Syria has the right to respond to Israel's aggression."
Earlier that same day, international public opinion continued to condemn Israel’s airstrikes on Syria. The Arab League, Egypt, Iran, the UK… criticized Israel’s actions as a blatant violation of international law, making the situation in the Middle East more dangerous.
