Quy Hop: Starting the project of planting vetiver in Chau Cuong commune
(Baonghean.vn) - On April 1, the Vietnam Horticulture Promotion and Service Center coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; Department of Science and Technology; Nghe An Province Promotion Center and Quy Hop District to organize a conference to launch the project of growing vetiver and training in incense making to contribute to sustainable management of forest resources and create stable livelihoods for Thai people in Khi, Teo and Nha villages of Chau Cuong commune.
These are 3 villages located in the buffer zone of Pu Huong Nature Reserve, with the most poor households in the commune. The project will be implemented in 2 years, with a total investment of 1,469,835,000 VND, of which the global environment GEF/SGP/UNDP supports 1 billion VND, the rest is contributed by the proposing organization, locality and community.

The project aims to raise awareness and knowledge for the community and local officials on converting to new production methods through training courses, workshops, conferences and seminars; provide technical support to the community through training courses, technical training on growing vetiver and incense production techniques, study tours of successful vetiver growing and incense production models; support the construction of a demonstration model for growing 13 hectares of vetiver in 3 hamlets: Ban Teo, Ban Khi, Ban Nha, including 7 hectares of pure planting and 6 hectares of intercropping with forestry trees, with an estimated average income of 100-120 million VND/ha/year.
After the project ends, Chau Cuong commune will continue to maintain and develop models of growing vetiver plants, creating jobs for workers, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction./.
