Quynh Long: Exciting traditional boat racing in early spring

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 21 (the third day of the Lunar New Year), along with spring outings, visits, and New Year greetings, the People's Committee of Quynh Long Commune (Quynh Luu) successfully organized the 2015 Spring Opening Ceremony and the traditional boat racing competition at the sea dike of Phu Lien village.

The traditional boat race of Quynh Long commune is held once a year, is the first ceremony of the year to start the seafood exploitation activities of Quynh Long commune fishermen, is a traditional folk cultural beauty of fishermen in coastal areas, as usual before the boat race takes place, the local Party Committee and government organize the Ancestor Announcement Ceremony at the Whale Temple in Dai Bac village with the meaning of praying for national peace and prosperity, favorable weather all year round, bountiful crops; wishing for calm weather, calm seas, smooth sailing for ships and boats, full holds of shrimp and fish, and increasingly prosperous life for villagers. At the same time, for villagers to remember their ancestors who have contributed to the establishment of the village.

This year's boat racing tournament has the participation of 8 boat teams from 8 villages in the commune with nearly 100 athletes, divided into 4 groups, competing in 7 boat races, on a 400m round-trip race. The quality of this year's racing teams is well prepared and invested; the race track arrangement and security work are quite good. In addition to the boat racing activities, there are also cultural exchange programs creating a vibrant and attractive atmosphere to serve the people during Tet. At the end of the tournament, the organizing committee awarded 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 2 third prizes and 4 consolation prizes.
