(Baonghean.vn) -According to forecasts, Typhoon No. 6 may make landfall this evening. The eye of the storm is located in the northeastern provinces and Thanh Hoa. However, since the morning of August 7th, strong winds and relatively heavy rain have occurred in some localities such as Hoang Mai, Quynh Luu, Dien Chau, and some coastal communes.

In Quynh Luu district, which has a relatively large number of fishing boats, after the forecast that typhoon No. 6 would make landfall, local fishermen are actively urging their boats to return to safe mooring areas to ensure the safety of lives and property. As of 11:00 AM on August 7th, 1,190 boats belonging to fishermen from 8 coastal communes in Quynh Luu district had been urged to return to safe mooring areas to avoid the storm.

Mr. Nguyen Van Bac, from Hamlet 8, Son Hai Commune, Quynh Luu District, said: “We were fishing at coordinates 105-106, but when we heard on the radio that a storm was about to hit, we immediately packed up our fishing gear and equipment to find the quickest way to bring the boat back to shelter.”

Lieutenant Colonel Ho Quoc Hai of the Quynh Thuan Border Guard Post stated that Typhoon No. 6 did not have strong winds, but it was moving very quickly. Furthermore, most of the fishing boats belonging to local fishermen operate in the Gulf of Tonkin, which lies directly in the path of Typhoon No. 6. Therefore, complacency could lead to significant damage. Consequently, the unit proactively coordinated with relevant agencies in Quynh Luu district and the boat owners' relatives to immediately urge the boats to return to safe locations.

Fishermen in the Lạch Quèn coastal area (Quỳnh Lưu district) anchor their boats.

In Quynh Luu district and Hoang Mai town, there are 83 large and small reservoirs and dams. Ensuring the safety of these reservoirs and dams is a matter of particular concern for the Flood and Storm Prevention Committee of Quynh Luu district, Hoang Mai town, and related units. Therefore, throughout today, these units have intensified their on-site inspections and reviewed all flood and storm prevention plans for the reservoirs and dams, striving to minimize damage caused by the remnants of Typhoon No. 6.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Quynh Luu district, said: The district's flood and storm prevention committee has directed its subcommittees to strictly implement and review all storm prevention plans in the area. Particular attention is being paid to protecting large-capacity dams, minimizing damage to property and lives, and strictly implementing the "four on-the-spot" principle in storm prevention.
