Quynh Luu, Dien Chau: Congress of Good Children of Uncle Ho

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 21st, the Youth Union of Quynh Luu district held its 17th Congress of Exemplary Children of Uncle Ho, for the term 2015-2020.

Overview of the congress

Building upon the valuable traditions of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers, over the past five years, the work of the Young Pioneers organization and the youth movement in Quynh Luu district has undergone significant transformation. Activities aimed at educating on traditions and fostering ideals, ethics, and lifestyles have been widely implemented and diversified in form.

Each year, more than 500 essays are submitted to competitions exploring historical topics and learning about the country and its people. For example, in the 2013-2014 academic year, there were over 500 entries in the competition commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory and the "Proud of Vietnam" competition.

At the same time, the youth teams focused on organizing and contributing to supporting 507 poor and disadvantaged students to return to school; donating 485,000 sets of clothes to poor and disadvantaged students with a total donation of up to 600 million VND. They also donated over 6,530 gifts to disadvantaged children and families of policy beneficiaries, implementing the "small plan" movement with a total value of 1.2 billion VND. The youth teams also donated 205 flocks of chickens, worth 123 million VND.

In addition, the entire district has over 500 effective learning clubs and 100 hobby clubs, improving the quality of education and promoting the comprehensive physical and intellectual development of children. Every year, in the IOE competition, over 200 students from the district win provincial and national awards. Over the past five years, more than 1000 cadres have also received training on youth group activities.

At the congress, 135 children were awarded the title of "Good Child of Uncle Ho" by the Quỳnh Lưu District Youth Union Council.

Also at the congress, the District Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs awarded 20 gifts to 20 students from disadvantaged backgrounds who overcame difficulties to achieve high academic results, each gift worth 200,000 VND.

The Chairman of the Youth Union Council and representatives from the district's education department presented the "Good Child of Uncle Ho" title to the children.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district awarded certificates of commendation to 10 teachers who are head of the Youth Union and 10 team leaders for their outstanding achievements in Youth Union work and youth movements during the period 2010 - 2015.

During the period 2010-2015, the Youth Union's work program and youth movement were implemented in many diverse forms, creating a vibrant emulation movement. There were 4,000 man-days of assistance for families with revolutionary merit and single-parent families; 250 silk blouses were donated to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; 265 gift packages were given to families receiving preferential treatment; and programs such as "Lighting up the dreams of Vietnamese youth" and "Helping friends overcome difficulties" were effectively implemented.

The entire district has 783 students who excelled at the provincial level and 20 students who excelled at the national level; in the science innovation competition, the district won 2 first prizes, 1 second prize at the provincial level and 2 third prizes at the national level.

Certificates of merit for "Good Children of Uncle Ho" were awarded to 85 outstanding Young Pioneers.

At the Congress, 85 children were awarded certificates of merit by the Dien Chau District Youth Council for being "Good Children of Uncle Ho," including 20 outstanding children in the movement of children following Uncle Ho's teachings. The Congress also elected a delegation to attend the higher-level Congress.
