Quynh Luu workshop on GS9 3-line hybrid rice
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of May 16, Dai Thanh Joint Stock Company coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district and Lam Cau Cooperative - Quynh Thach commune to organize a field workshop to evaluate the results of producing the GS9 3-line hybrid rice variety in the Spring crop of 2013.

GS9 3-line hybrid rice is a hybrid rice variety created by Agritech Group - Philippines, recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in August 2011. In the Spring crop of 2013, Dai Thanh Joint Stock Company tested GS9 rice variety at Lam Cau Cooperative, Quynh Thach Commune with an area of 10 hectares.
Spring crop growing period is from 125 - 130 days, summer crop is 105 - 110 days, seedlings are strong, cold-resistant and lodging-resistant, and resistant to bacterial leaf blight in the summer crop. Rice grains are long, the rice is delicious, rich, soft and firm. Average yield is 7.5 tons/ha, if intensively cultivated well in the spring crop, it can reach over 14 tons/ha. Although the spring crop of 2013 had complicated weather conditions, unfavorable for rice growth, the cold in the sowing stage affected the pollination and grain formation process, but through monitoring, it was shown that the GS9 rice variety had a growing period 3 days shorter than the control variety, grew well, tillered strongly, bloomed concentratedly, had good lodging-resistant ability, was weather-resistant, and had no pests or diseases.
Speaking at the workshop, leaders of Quynh Luu district suggested that in addition to the advantages, seed suppliers should also point out the disadvantages of the GS9 rice variety; cooperatives and farmers who are experimenting with the variety should have a clearer assessment of this rice variety. Although the rice has relatively good lodging resistance, it should also be tested in the following crops with larger areas in localities to have a more objective and accurate assessment./.
