Quynh Luu: Traditional boat racing festival in early spring

(Baonghean.vn) -Every year, after Tet, the people of Quynh Long commune (Quynh Luu) enthusiastically organize the traditional boat racing festival to celebrate the Party and Spring, atDalian Village Beach.

Before the festival, the local Party Committee and government held a ceremony to inform the ancestors at the Whale Temple in Dai Bac village, praying for a new year of favorable weather, calm seas, national peace and prosperity, and a bountiful fishing season for the villagers.

After the ceremonies at the Whale Temple, the racing teams took their boats out to sea, each village formed a racing team of 12 strong young men. The racing boat was 8 meters long, 1.3 meters wide in the middle, in the middle of Dai Hai village beach where the race took place, 4 poles were planted to determine the racing track, each pole was 300 meters apart, the navel pole was planted right in front of the Organizing Committee and the Jury stands. After three drum beats to start the festival, the racing teams started, the total length of the racing track was 600 meters, the winning team was the first team to reach the finish line without violating the racing rules.
